Overview
Our client is a full-service steel and steel raw materials trader with a global presence with more than a dozen international offices. They focus on de-risking trade flows throughout the supply chain, rather than speculation and position taking. They independently trade a variety of steel products and steel raw materials and provide advanced finance solutions to suppliers and customers, as well as comprehensive logistics management services to their trade counterparties. Due to expansion, they are currently seeking an experienced Steel Trader to join them in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Responsibilities
The Senior Steel Trader shall be based in Jakarta and will be accountable to the International Managing Director through interactions with numerous other internal stakeholders. They will develop new and manage existing customers and suppliers’ relationships within the Indonesia and the Southeast Asian marketplace as well as developing untapped business areas for expanding the Company’s business further.
Core Accountabilities:
- Trading and Sales of steel, steel pipes and other related steel products and raw materials in Indonesia and Southeast Asia
- Establish and review contracts with customers and suppliers and show a business-oriented mindset.
- Manage relationships with existing Partners in Indonesia and Vietnam.
- Fundamental knowledge of supply chain, logistics and trade finance
- Monitor and research markets and financial developments both locally and overseas.
- Develop both new customers and suppliers.
- Team player, able to communicate well with operation team, customers, and suppliers.
- Provide after-sales service to customers and where necessary liaise with both customers and suppliers to ensure the smooth running of the business.
- Be prepared to travel regularly both locally and overseas to properly service the customer and supplier base.

Qualifications & experience:
- Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Business/Commercial and/or other relevant discipline Strong trading (sales and purchase) experience in steel
- Long standing customer and purchase relations in Indonesia and, where possible, Southeast Asia
- Proven track record in growing an organization to the next level.
- Financing / CTF /Structured Finance knowledge within the ferrous domain would be advantageous.
- Strong network in the region
- Multiple sales and purchase channels
- Proven ability to develop new purchase and sales channels.
- Proven increase of trade volume / net worth over the last years
- Risk awareness, experience in back-to-back trade, hedging etc.
- Ability to work in a multinational company framework.
- Budgeting, sales planning skills
